THE HISTORY OF HILLCREST
Our start in 1945
-
In a garage. Attendance was 10, which included the pastor and his wife

-
Moved in a few weeks to another garage across the street
-
Purchased land shortly after that to build a church
-
Started building a basement on that property in January
-
Purchased two more connecting lots in February for a 36X60 church

-
First service was on Easter Sunday with an attendance of 14
-
Rain the night before flooded the basement and it had to be bailed out
-
The members took out loans equaling $980 to construct it. This was no small feat for a bunch of blue collar workers.
-
Huge financial sacrifices were made.
-
Pastor Grant sold his car so materials could be bought
-
God was blessing that small groups efforts

Trials

-
While digging in June, two men were buried by a ditch cave-in but were soon rescued.
-
As the basement was completed, termites immediately began eating the new wood. As a result, metal frames were put in their place.
-
As construction of the upper section was completed, a rain in 1959 collapsed the new Fellowship Hall walls.
-
Pews were made from raw 1X12 boards.
-
The church was under constant construction from expanding its facilities for 24 years
