Background:
I was born and raised in Sioux Falls and also born at Hillcrest Church. My family
and myself have been very involved with Hillcrest all of my life and it's truly
a place I call home. I moved to Orange City, Iowa in 2003 to get my elementary
education degree and after graduating in 2007 moved to Detroit, Michigan. I
worked at a school and ministry called City Mission that was located in the
heart of the city. I taught 2nd-3rd for two years and was the program director
my last year of all programs outside the school day. This included an evening
tutoring and mentoring program for kids grades K-12. After three years in
Detroit it was time for me to come back home and the Powerhouse tutoring center
was in the beginning phases. We are in our third year as an after
school program for Whittier Middle School students. I spend each afternoon with
them doing homework, working on reading and math, and always having a good
time. I also keep busy running a cupcake business, teaching piano lessons,
working at Plum's Cooking Co. and 12th Street Napa Auto Care Center.
Hobbies:
I love teaching and working with kids, typically not in a traditional manner.
Anytime I can cook with them or go on field trips with them is absolutely ideal
for me and usually brings about the best lessons! I also love to create,
especially with the use of a glue gun and often think I make anything I would
see in a store! You can often find me in the kitchen baking or cooking, and
then usually delivering the goodies that certainly can't all stay at my house.
I love to be outdoors, go camping in the summer, and am always ready for a
bonfire simply for endless marshmallows!
