10/10/2024 0 Comments A Righteous RulerIsaiah shared strong words of praise from the Lord to Cyrus, going so far as to say God appointed Cyrus and gave him riches and power specifically for the benefit of Israel. He strengthened Cyrus even “though you have not acknowledged me.” And Cyrus did God’s will by letting the Jews return to their homeland and allowing them to restore the temple – even giving them the sacred vessels from the Temple as well as money to buy building materials. Without being aware of it, Cyrus created the circumstances to fulfill the prophecy that the Jews would be restored to their homeland.
Questions for further thought: 1. Do you ever see evidence, even today, of God bringing about good results for his people even from a leader who doesn’t acknowledge God is sovereign? 2. If it seems unlikely or even impossible that a political leader whom you oppose can do things in accordance with God’s will, why do you feel that way? Challenge: Pray that God blesses the leaders of the political party you are opposed to. Don’t pray just that they see the light and think the way you think but that you are able to see more clearly how God continues to work his will under every circumstance.
