7/1/2024 0 Comments Defining SlaveryIt’s uncomfortable to think about sin, even if you are super confident Jesus forgives us. When you think about a moment of anger, lust, unkindness, laziness, part of its power is that you can let it define you: You didn’t do something lazy vs. you are lazy. Believing the lies of the enemy is slavery and helps you stay in slavery. It helps you believe you’re not a child of God but rather just a non-family-member.
Questions for further thought: 1. Is there a sin that you struggle with because you think it defines who you are? 2. If you’ve broken free from sin in the past, what made the difference? Challenge: If you are having a hard time believing that you are ever going to get free from a particular sin, it might help to take the focus off yourself. You aren’t that powerful. But as Christians, we know someone who is. Eloquent prayers aren’t required. To get started, a simple “God, help me trust you to take care of X” is enough.
