6/3/2024 0 Comments Dropping EverythingFrom a distance of 2,000 years, it’s easy for us to shake our heads at Peter’s impulsiveness. We remember his suggestion to build 3 altars at the transfiguration or asking to have his whole body washed by Jesus rather than just his feet. But Peter’s willingness to drop everything, even his livelihood, to follow Jesus shows a childlike faith. And Jesus asks us on multiple occasions to react to his love more like children than with a careful, cautious “adult” love.
Questions for further thought: 1. Have you ever dropped everything to follow something God put on your heart? 2. What keeps you from obeying an impulse to do something for Jesus? Is it because you are unsure it really is a prompting from the Holy Spirit? Is it the weight of the cares of this world? Challenge: Thinking about the children in your life or yourself as a kid, take a moment to define what it is God values about childlike faith. In what ways is your own belief childlike? In what ways could you let your brain get out of the way and follow your heart?
