The king’s fury at the men’s disobedience to him was surely fear inducing. All three of them certainly expected an agonizing death. It was not until they had been thrown into the extremely hot furnace, which had just killed the soldiers who threw them in, that we see the Lord’s presence. The bible consistently shows us that God is with those who love Him – through every challenge and struggle. In this case, His presence is even visible so that King Nebuchadnezzar must admit who is responsible for providing the miraculous protection.
Questions for further thought: 1. Is it difficult for you to visualize the Lord actually being with you? 2. How can you increase your awareness of God’s presence in your life? Challenge: If you struggle with the concept of the Lord’s presence with you in our modern world, try reading the novel, “Seeing Jesus” by Jeffrey McClain Jones. This book is the first in a series that explores what it might be like if a believer could actually see Jesus for a while. Remember that while this book is fiction, His promise to be with us is real. (Matthew 28:20)
