7/4/2024 0 Comments True FreedomA tough test for the early church was deciding which Jewish laws Christians should or should not continue to follow. Circumcision, eating meat sacrificed to idols, observing diet restrictions about pigs and shellfish … the newfound freedom of Gentiles to be Christians brought up difficult questions. What do you do when you have freedom from the law? Paul asked Christians to act with humility and grace toward each other.
Questions for further thought: 1. Do you sometimes find it appealing to have strict rules so you know for sure that you are following the right path? 2. Have you ever let “the right way to do something” disrupt your relationship with a fellow Christian? Challenge: Remember that there really is an authority over right and wrong—God, as revealed in God’s word. But it’s not always easy for humans to discern God’s will, even with the help of the Bible. Earnest prayer with grace and humility puts us in the right frame of mind to interact when there are differences of opinion.
