10/7/2024 0 Comments Who Chooses? In a democracy like the United States, it is so tempting to feel like we control our own political destiny because we truly do have the freedom to vote. When we look back at the kings, dictators and tyrants who ruled through most of human history, we are rightly grateful that we have a say. But as Daniel knew, we really aren’t ultimately in control. He trusted God to reveal the answer to interpret Nebuchadnezzar’s dream and save him and his friends from death.
Questions for further thought: 1. When you think about politics, do you mostly think in terms of how you will vote and how you might persuade others to vote the same as you – in other words, about how people can change the course of events rather than God? 2. On the other hand, do you sometimes feel helpless and that your vote won’t make any difference in who rules the country? Challenge: Ask God for right thinking when it comes to politics, having the faith to believe that you can make a difference alongside the sure knowledge that God is in control no matter what happens.
