6/2/2021 0 Comments It's Not Fair... FortunatelyWhen we think about the gift given to us through Christ’s death on the cross, we often use the words mercy, grace and forgiveness. Those are good and accurate words. We’ll focus on one each of the next three days. The dictionary defines mercy as “Compassion and kindness shown to someone whom it is in one's power to punish or harm.” Our sin deserves punishment, but God’s in His kindness gives us a second chance through faith in Christ.
Questions for further thought: 1. Do you consider yourself a merciful person? If so, what evidence would support that? If not, why not? 2. Mercy isn’t just shown in actions, but also in attitude. Is there a person or group you struggle to have a merciful attitude toward? Challenge: Today, take some time to identify any people or groups that, if you were in charge, you would feel are unworthy of mercy. This week do a word search on mercy and grace in the Bible. What does God say about your choices?

6/1/2021 0 Comments What Would You Give Up?It’s hard – maybe impossible – for us to grasp the magnitude of Christ’s sacrifice. We might be willing to trade our life for that of a spouse or child, but how about your worst enemy? That’s what Jesus did. He temporarily set aside His status as the Lord of all creation and the Son of God to work as a carpenter and live for three years as a homeless preacher. What does that say about the depth of His love for us?
Questions for further thought: 1. What would you be willing to give up to help someone you don’t really know…or someone you knew who didn’t like you? 2. What does the fact that Jesus sacrificed so much mean to you personally? Challenge: Jesus gave up a lot to live among us and pay the price necessary to reconcile us to God. With that in mind, what might He be calling you to set aside in order to help others find the gift of grace and forgiveness you have already received? |
