11/2/2021 0 Comments Tempted in Big WaysWe love to dwell on the Fruits of the Spirit, but we tend to avoid reading about the sins Paul mentions just a few verses earlier. These “big” temptations are real and ugly, even for Christians, and they can sometimes develop from what we consider “small” temptations such as gossip or resentment. Fortunately, our God is stronger than we are and able to overcome even the worst temptations.
Questions for further thought: 1. Are you currently wrestling with any of the “major” temptations of this world? 2. Are there any smaller temptations in your life that you could envision developing into something worse? Challenge: Pray for self-control in the face of temptations big and small this week, and not only for yourself but for those around you and their own struggles.

11/1/2021 0 Comments tempted in Small WaysWe most often think of self-control as the ability to resist big temptations, but in our everyday lives, it’s the small fumbles that trip us up: an irritated retort when kids interrupt a phone call, a few more minutes of web surfing when there’s work to do. Adam and Eve’s temptation was pretty small, too – it was just a bite of fruit, right? – but it had a world-changing impact.
Questions for further thought: 1. Name two issues with self-control that you find yourself excusing because they’re “small.” 2. In what ways have you successfully gained self-control, and how can those be applied to other areas where you need more discipline? Challenge: Ask God for insight into areas where you need to exert more self-control. |
