12/3/2019 0 Comments The Greed TrapGreed and materialism can entrap a person who is not careful. It can pull us away from loving each other. Greed takes people into temptation, ruin, and destruction. It withholds wisdom and insight. It is an idol. It can build like a snowball rolling downhill. It keeps getting bigger and it makes our God jealous. Through reading His Word, praying to Him and humbling ourselves before Him, we are able to overcome our need for greed.
1. What idols (tangible and non-tangible) entrap you and prevent you from getting closer to God? 2. What spiritual disciplines can you employ to overcome your idols? Challenge: Pray to start with the spiritual disciplines you answered in Question 2 above. This could be counseling (professional, pastoral or just wisdom from close friends), fasting from the idols, or filling time away in prayer or service.

12/2/2019 0 Comments What Is Greed?Merriam-Webster defines greed as “a selfish and excessive desire for more of something (such as money) than is needed.” The American society is always telling us we never have enough. Advertisers try to tell us their product will make us happier. Their product will make life easier, more popular, safer, etc. Yet Jesus warned us about wanting more. The measurement of our life is in something else.
1. In what areas of your life are you greedy? 2. What advertisements (TV, radio, internet, billboards) cause you to want more worldly possessions? Challenge: Look around and see how advertisers influence you to want more than you need. |
