In this passage, Ruth works hard gleaning behind the harvesters and is noticed not only by the foreman, but also by Boaz. Her hard work is rewarded that day as Boaz instructs his foreman to pull out stalks from their bundles for her to pick up. If you continue to read the rest of Ruth’s story, you would also see that God blesses Ruth with Boaz as her new husband and a child. Hard work does pay off.
Questions for further thought: 1. Think back to a time when you worked hard and were rewarded. What did you do and what did you receive? 2. How did it feel to be rewarded? Challenge: The payoff for hard work does not always come immediately, so continue to work hard at the work God has placed before you and pray for diligence to keep doing what needs to be done.
