Since I became a believer, I have heard people pray – in Jesus’ name. Frequently those words are the end to my prayers. What does that really mean? Is my prayer consistent with how Jesus would pray? Does using Jesus’ name guarantee that prayers will be answered? John tells us that Jesus will do what we ask in his name, so the Son will bring glory to the Father. Are the things asked for in prayer bringing glory to God?
Questions for further thought:
1. What does it mean to ask for something in another’s name?
2. Do your prayers bring glory to God?
Challenge: To ask for something in another’s name indicates knowledge of that person. How well do you know Jesus?
