One of the root causes of marital strife is that we sometimes, in our pride, experience "inordinate self-esteem". We feel empowered to think we deserve more than we are getting out of the relationship. The marriage becomes unsatisfying and we always blame the other person. This unchecked pride leads to a lack of intimacy, communication and ultimately a complete breakdown of connection.
Questions for further thought:
1. What are the dynamics of your marriage?
2. Is it "selfless" or "selfish"?
Challenge: Take time to evaluate how you treat your spouse. Do you elevate your spouse or tear him/her down? Do you sacrifice to make life better for your spouse? Do you pray for your spouse and your marriage? Do you put your needs and wants on the back burner to make his/her dreams come true?
