However, we don’t have to “hope.” John says we can “know” we have eternal life with God. Our certainty comes from an understanding that is has nothing to do with us and everything to do with Him! God’s promise of eternal life comes through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ to save. The neat thing about Christianity is that it is inclusive in that it is available to everyone; however it is exclusive in that it is only available to those who have put their trust and faith in Jesus Christ alone. (John 14:6) It comes down to two religions really; the religion of human achievement or the religion of divine accomplishment. Which one will you choose?
Questions for further thought: 1. When have I been tempted to put my trust in myself for my salvation? 2. Why does this seem to be the prevailing thought of our culture today? Challenge: Practice communicating with God in prayer not demanding what you want, but rather discuss with Him what He wants for you. Wait expectantly as He starts working.
