5/3/2023 0 Comments Supporting RolesAs humans, our expectations are always colored by our own gifts and virtues. Why doesn’t everyone else take a turn at supervising kiddos? Why doesn’t everyone else help build sets for VBS? Why doesn’t everyone else stand up and lead worship? But all the ways that people take part in the body of the church are needed, and we need to honor those whose roles are different than ours.
Questions for further thought: 1. Do you ever find yourself irritated with other “body parts” of the church? 2. What’s the best way you can support people whose roles in the church are different from yours? Challenge: Identify 3 people at church who perform different functions in the church and pray a blessing on their work.

5/2/2023 0 Comments What's Your Part?If all of us were (metaphorical) noses, we wouldn’t make up much of a church body. Each of us has a unique role to play, and the Bible tells us to seek out that role to fulfill our destinies as children of God. The church is at its best when all its parts work together and all of us know what our individual part – our individual gift – is.
Questions for further thought: 1. Have you earnestly sought to find out what your individual gift is as part of God’s church? 2. What could you do to investigate further what your gift is or what part you have to play in God’s church? Challenge: While everyone has natural talents or gifts, the exact part we play in the church body might shift over time. Even if you’ve done a spiritual gifts test before, you could try a free one out online, like this one from Focus on the Family. 5/1/2023 0 Comments Don't Downplay Your PartMaybe you are uncertain whether you have a real role to play as part of the body of the church. You don’t want to stand up and speak, you don’t want to lead worship or teach Sunday school. But not everyone gets a starring role. And if you’ve ever injured your pinky toe, you must recognize this essential truth: losing function in even the smallest body part affects the whole body. Every part of the body is essential.
Questions for further thought: 1. Why do you think we tend to dismiss the importance of our part in the body of the church? 2. Is it genuine humility to say “Well, I’m not the [insert best body part here], so I am not truly part of the body”? Challenge: In your prayers today, ask God to give you the right vision of yourself as a valuable part of the church body. |
